Week 35
Alex calls me at 5 excited, " I know what we are going to paint tonight! But it's a secret!" Coming home he shows me a the vivacious image of my father in law Sabka he had in mind. Floods of emotion come over me. It's to be a secret gift for my mother in law on the one year anniversary of his passing. He is so alive. I truly still see him this way. It's like seeing him in reality, seeing him as I would surely see him later in the week somehow. His laugh boisterous and joyful, emensly delighted in a joke of little consequence or in a fish he caught of any size. Laughter was easily gotten by him and he was always trying to provoke it. I see that in my husband, always bringing laughter, seeing the positive, reveling in his own jokes. Life is joy and meant to be shared. I feel like this painting we bring that out.
I was kind of scared to begin this one, afraid of the emotion that may come out. It's strange and not at all strange to be so close to each detail and fold in his face. It was really nice to feel close actually. To think of bringing life into the painting- my being purposeful with my color choices - vibrant and alive, to make my strokes free and in constant movement.
