Week 90

Bluebonnets seem an unlikely choice for me. I’m not one to taut heritage, university or nationality. But I have been slowly learning the pride of the hallmarks of where I’m from, the things that make us unique, the incredible things and customs I am so proud to be a part of.

The day was overcast and moody. Nevertheless, the bluebonnets had erupted from the thick carpet of bright green grass, proud sentinels of the first days of spring. And we, we had bubbles. Bubbles are something I’ve rarely seen in paintings. I’m not sure why. Their iridescence could be troublesome to convey, or perhaps they’re too flighty and whimsical. But as they glided from the long pink wand into the silent grayish white sky, colors appeared and swirled giving the orbs a life of their own. Then, there was a magnificent decent into a patch of rain jeweled bluebonnets. Even once nestled among them, the opalescent bubbles continued to swirl. It was as if they were conveying the latest colorful gossip before their short life ended. The bluebonnets leaned in, knowing they were a dazzling array among friends.
