Lake Worth Egret Wild
Lake Worth Egret Wild
Week 114
A little turquoise boat, more reminiscent of a 1965 convertible than sea craft, pulls at an easy pace through the velvety Texas water. Bright crystal spray cascades by port and starboard, dancing with the breeze before landing lightly on our upturned cheeks. The warm sun glints off the untroubled water and through the alcoves. Rounding the bend, we discover the Egret Wild. Dozing statuettes fringe the languorous, mostly submerged trees. A ballet of bright white feathers array the center in preening, hunting and courtship, oblivious of the bustling city not 2 miles away.
Cruising away slowly, our hands find one another amongst the tangle of little people. We’re struck that these pockets of wild are surprisingly common and mostly overlooked in our daily urban surge of life. But in finding them, one can connect with a primitive undercurrent, thrumming deep within. And it is magic, every time.
