Stand in Colony
Week 129
This is the night of our secret painting. Each year, there is one evening where we complete TWO paintings in one night….and they must be of birds. So although the series is 52 Weeks, 52 Quickies, covertly we complete 53.
There is snow falling quietly in fat flakes all around, burying the studio in silent drifts that creep up the siding. Nestled inside, we shiver off the cold in an embrace that soothes our gooseflesh and warms our minds. Then we begin our work. The palette is filled with the most delicious non edible things you could imagine; brilliant intoxicating reds, fiery oranges, earthy umbers and creamy whites. After the enormous 4 foot by 6 foot painting we did last week, this seems almost an out of body - passion compelled continuation. The works themselves are demanding to be done, calling out with some inaudible voice that threads into our hearts and raises our hands in delightful compulsion.
