Week 83
My nerdy side needs a moment in the light as it’s been ruminating on the sayings of Yoda. We have been slowly going through the Star Wars series IN ORDER, something I’ve never done. I found it profound when Yoda, in his weird voice, said that fear was the path to the dark side. It kinda shocked me. Surely not, it is a trait of a good but wounded being- not a person with one foot in the “dark side”. But he went on. “Fear gives way to anger and anger to hate and hate leads to suffering.” The truth there shook me. How many times and places have I seen this cycle?
This piece, the last moments of sun before the hot orb plunked wearily into the sea, was one fraught with uncertainty. The deep colors and dark shapes were familiar but unknown. Then, we turned the painting sideways. The new vantage allowed us a level horizon and shook off the uncertainty in exchange for fun. Though our subject plays on the rim of the dark side, we never gave in long.
