Week 136

The deep summer heat splintered as an early afternoon storm rolled heavily overhead. As it receded, the brilliant colors of sunset pushed through the grumbling clouds, lighting up the world below. The concrete parking lot outside the window suddenly became a glassy pond. The shops became the wild surround. In that moment we were transported from an office window, work and it’s demands, into a wonderland of color, beauty and awe deserving nature.

Painting this piece was wild and free, bold strokes over a large canvas. Our largest brushes bathed the canvas in thinner paint. Then, excitedly, we took out our sharp palette knife. Prussian blue, Lamp black and Umber slathered and daubed, mixing on the canvas and creating the undulating textures of the trees. Thick Naples and pink happily cut across the water in reflected light. Stroke, Stroke, Stroke. Bam, Bam, Bam. Once we looked up, time started again without my having noticed it had stopped.
