The Window
The Window
24x36 | Oil on Canvas
Week 46
If you open our paint drawer, you will find tens of tubes well loved (and well squeezed). We have many colors to play with but none that could give us the true vividness of our floral. After debating, we used oil and our background to aid us- the velature was perfect to capture the light and color in the delicate flowers.
This one was very free. I felt as if I was painting in an alley in Italy, espresso by my palette, paints in hand, and the crisp smell of enjoying life permeating all. Whether looking in, or looking out, the window offers the chance to steal a glimpse of another life.
The bougainvillea twists wildly around the villa window, cascading its blooms with reckless abandon. Winding its glorious and mischievous tendrils, it clings to the aging plaster to both discover and ease its distress. The brilliant reflection over the glass refuses to reveal its contents. I'm staring at it- who is staring at me?
