We usually don’t do this, but before we got started, we had a discussion about the most important part of the painting. We agreed that was the hand meeting water and to give emphasis to that. Now that I look at it finished, the most important part of this whole piece is actually the entire connection between the girl and the water. Conceptually, it is all about seeing her body through the water, hearing the water cascading from her hair, sensing the weight of the water rushing up around her as she wades in and then the touch of a hand, light and free playing across the surface of the waves.

On the technical side, it’s all about the light. Increasing the chroma where you want to create the look of light passing through is a must. And similarly on the spiritual side, it seems that the places where the light is, are also where life is most vivid.

Amongst months of quarantine, shut downs and fear, my respite has generally been in nature, preferably basking in the deliciously warm sunlight. When the sun is out, it seems to inexplicably bring hope,  peace and vibrancy. In all, this year has truly solidified my thoughts that we all have a deep need to touch nature and for it to touch us.
